Where are the BEARDS?
What does ANet have against beards?
A few wimpy goatees and a light beard on one ranger face, but otherwise, the game is devoid of beards, even in Nightfall, which is "inspired" by a part of the world where some people are *required* to wear beards. I suggest ANet need to look at males in Tangiers, Tripoli, and Cairo, and I think they'll notice a glaring omission in Nightfall.
I've worn a full beard for 28 years. The one time I did shave it off, my wife refused to come near me because I didn't "look like her husband."
I don't make game avatars that look like me (half my toons are female!), but the world of Nightfall looks... *wrong* without bearded individuals.
In the grand scheme of things, this is a small matter. I find pogonophobia (fear of beards) rather amusing. But I wonder if ANet is showing a disturbing cultural bias when it ignores beards?

Hmm..a interesting inquiry. While I don't think beards are really necessary, I understand there are people, like you that do want them. You'll have to ask Anet. Maybe they have'nt realised that there are people that are bothered about not having any.

Including beards seems like a pretty obvious thing to me. I can see them being somewhat less prevalent in Cantha, but in Tyria and Elona, it just feels completely wrong. As for them not being "necessary" well, if by that you mean that it doesn't affect gameplay, then a lot of things aren't necessary. It's not necessary to have different looks for the same type of weapons (swords, axes, etc.). It's not necessary to have different faces for the characters. That's no reason not to include it. The more customization options we have, the more alive and diverse the game world feels.

The reason beards are not ingame is because of clipping issues with armor, from what I understand. But that doesn't mean they can't put trim beards in.

i agree that they need more beards. so far they only offer pencil thin metrosexual style facial hair, which is fine if you're a big fan of justin timberlake and want to look just like him. i want to see some big, bushy "i'm a man and i don't give a ****" beards.
i look exactly like this guy (slightly less dirty, more tattoos/piercings) and i was disappointed that i couldn't make a character that looked like him.
please anet, take a look at this pic and add some of these facial hair styles to the game. i would love to have some handlebars on my dervish.
i know they'd never go for it, but i would really like to have this option: the Kaiser
the Kaiser would not be able to be covered by any mask or helm, but all enemies in range would suffer -1 health and energy degeneration as a result of the fear and dread inspired by such swarthy awesomeness.

Thank you! That's exactly what I am thinking of.
And yes, I resemble the picture, right down to the shaved head and a nasty scar on my nose.

Clipping issue doesn't seem like much of an actual issue to me, anyway. That'd only be a problem with great big flowing beards, and we don't necessarily need those. I doubt beards like the one in the picture above would be a problem.

I don;t think it's a graphics problem; my daughter does professional digital 3D for games, and she's made reasonable-looking beards on characters, even long beards, by using elongated "chins" and alpha-transparent textures.
I suspect ANet is stuck in the Western veiw that beards are "bad". Such a shame, too.

YAY FOR BEARDS!!
Including beards would add so much variety to the lacking selection of faces we have right now, and I doubt it would be that difficult to implement since there are NPCS with beards; Adelbern, the dude a few posts up, and many of the NPCS from Vabbi.

I, too, thought they weren't included due to engine restrictions *they would just "stick" out of the chin and into armor. TES:Oblivion has the same problem (tho that's also derived from the facegen technology they used there)
